Constructed in the mid-1950s by the former Lincoln County Society of Art, History, and Archaeology, the outdoor amphitheater is home to the annual performance of The Last Escape of Billy the Kid folk pageant. The first performance of the outdoor play was held in 1940, and performances have continued for more than 80 years. Held the first Friday-Saturday-Sunday in August, it is one of the country’s few remaining genuine folk pageants, staged and performed entirely by local volunteers.
